Working as a nurse gives you the chance to help others on a daily basis. There are various types of nursing degrees that you can take up while raising children at home.
Nursing programs let you build your school schedule around your personal routine. You can take time off when your kids have appointments, study while the kids are in school or work a part-time or full-time job and study on your own time.
Single mothers and education statistics show that this demographic are more likely to attend a two-year program than a four-year program. The two-year program, called an Associate Degree in nursing (ADN), prepares nurses for working with patients by combining classroom work with training in the field. You can often find these programs at community colleges and technical fields.
Depending on your schedule, you might prefer a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) program. The LPN program may take over 14 months or less. You spend your education studying the basics of nursing. After finishing your program, you must take the NCLEX-PN exam before seeking work.
Two other programs that single mothers in the workforce sometimes take are for being a certified nursing assistant (CNA) or a registered nurse (RN). A CNA program takes two years or more dependent on the time you can commit. The program teaches basic skills necessary to assist nurses and doctors.

An RN is a nurse who attends more schooling. To become an RN, you must first finish your LPN program. Some women spend four years or more studying before working as an RN.
When looking at a nursing degree program, you really need to decide how much time you want to spend in school.
