In this case, that isn't really necessary, since the base model Optima now comes with a very efficient 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine that's good for a surprising 200 horsepower.
Sportier trim packages are equipped with a turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is usually rough on the mileage. In this case, however, the combination of power and economy manages to deliver 274 horsepower while getting 22 to 24 mpg for city driving and an amazing 35 mpg on the highway.
