If you're shopping for a compact car, the Toyota Corolla should be part of your investigation. More than 27 million people have purchased Corollas, making this vehicle the most-sold passenger car in the world. This buying guide shows what you get for this year's Toyota Corolla price.

Toyota has operated in the United States for over 55 years. The company has earned numerous awards, including Top Safety Picks from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety and Best Overall Value honors from IntelliChoice. Although the first American Corolla had to be imported in 1968, today about 400 Corollas drive out of the Mississippi manufacturing plant each day. Prices fluctuate with demand, style changes and technological innovations.

Features and options

Toyota Corolla priceEach four-door Toyota Corolla features remote keyless entry, air conditioning, a four-cylinder engine and a complimentary Toyota Care maintenance plan with roadside assistance. Standard safety features include antilock brakes, stability control and traction control.

Reviews from consumers and industry professionals emphasize the new model's comfortable and quiet ride, reliability and great resale value. At the same time, this compact sedan offers only average fuel economy in its class. It gets 27 miles per gallon in the city and 34 mpg on the highway. In contrast, you can get 28/36 mpg in the Honda Civic and 26/36 in the Ford Focus.

Model trims

The Toyota Corolla price varies with the selected trim level. You can choose from three trims:

  • Toyota Corolla interiorCorolla L: The economy model with a five-speed manual transmission comes with a manufacturer suggested retail price of $16,230. The four-speed automatic transmission adds about $80, for a total of $17,060. This trim level does not include cruise control or heated door mirrors like the LE and S.
  • Corolla LE: The LE costs $18,180. You can only purchase this automobile with an automatic transmission, so if you like the power of manual shifting, you will need to choose a different trim level.
  • Corolla S: You can buy a sporty Corolla S for $18,230 with a manual transmission or $19,060 with an automatic transmission. This model ships with a rear spoiler, front fog lights and alloy wheels.

Optional elements increase the Toyota Corolla price. For instance, adding a six-speaker AM/FM/CD package to the interior of an L-series car can tack an extra $280 onto your bill. Adding a moonroof and premium wheels to the S-series increases the sticker price by $570.

Cost of ownership

Regardless of which model and options you choose, the five-year cost of ownership ranges from $28,000 to $29,000. This cost is slightly less than the sum for competitors. The number includes estimated maintenance, repairs, fuel, depreciation, financing, insurance and state fees.
