The Maserati Ghibli is just one of many examples of automotive transcendence out of Italy. The Ghibli has been in production since 1966 with three main models, the Ghibli I, II and III, having been produced to date. The Ghibli I was in production from 1966 to 1973 while the Ghibli II was produced from 1992 to 1997, and the current Ghibli III began production in 2013.

The Maserati Ghibli III is coming to North America to compete with long-standing best-sellers like the Audi A6, BMW 550i and Jaguar XF with its similar mid-size sedan style that combines power and luxury at more affordable prices. With the performance and style you get for the Maserati Ghibli price, it should give those other luxury models quite a run for their money.

North American Debut

Maserati Ghibli priceThe Maserati Ghibli announced its debut in North American markets with the airing of a 90-second Super Bowl XLVIII ad that generated major buzz among car shoppers and enthusiasts. In fact, Kelly Blue Book searches for the Maserati Ghibli increased by more than 4,000 percent following the Super Bowl XLVIII ad.

Maserati Ghibli price

Maserati plans to sell about 12,000 Ghibli cars in the United States in 2014 from its 80 American dealerships. The standard Maserati Ghibli price will be about $66,900, which means the Ghibli will be the first car to be sold by Maserati for less than $100,000.

Maserati Ghibli engines

Maserati Ghibli specs and performance differ based on the various available packages. The standard Ghibli package features a 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine that pushes 330 horsepower and 369 lb·ft of torque, which allows it to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in just under 5.6 seconds with a top speed of 165 mph.

Maserati Ghibli front endMeanwhile, a more powerful engine build is available with the Ghibli S, which features 410 horsepower and 406 lb·ft of torque to give it a 0 to 60 mph acceleration time of about 4.7 seconds with a top speed of 175 mph. That is speed and power you can only unleash on a race track. In addition, Maserati plans to produce diesel engine Ghibli packages that will push out about 275 horsepower. The V6 turbodiesel Ghibli will be the first car produced by Maserati to feature a diesel-powered engine.

Ghibli transmission and fuel economy

All vehicle builds of the Maserati Ghibli will feature 8-speed automatic transmissions. The 8-speed transmission is advantageous largely due to superior fuel economy over 6-speed and 5-speed transmissions. In fact, 8-speed transmissions can achieve up to 11 percent better fuel economy than 6-speed transmissions.

For the V6 turbocharged Ghibli and Ghibli S, the 8-speed transmission allows an admirable 25 mpg on the highway. This means that the 21-gallon fuel tank of the Ghibli can be driven more than 500 miles in between fill ups. When combined with the V6 turbodiesel engine, the 8-speed transmission of the Ghibli gets an incredible fuel efficiency rating of about 57 mpg on the highway.

Ghibli features and interior

Maserati Ghibli performanceFirst and foremost, the Maserati Ghibli is a sports car, so its priorities are in performance and not interior comfort. That's not to say the Ghibli interior is poor; it's just not as comfortable and feature-filled as a big-body luxury sedan. The cockpit is well-designed and appointed, and the seat upholstery and other materials are quality, but nothing truly stands out among its class. There is enough head and leg room for a grown adult to sit behind another grown adult, but it's going to be a bit of a squeeze.

The Ghibli can seat up to five people at a time, with six-way power front seats. Also included standard on all models are a 7-inch TFT central dashboard display, dual-climate controls and a rearview camera. Overall, the interior is satisfactory for the Maserati Ghibli price.

Maserati Ghibli rear endMany Maserati Ghibli reviews praise the vehicle's specs, design and affordability across the board. Reviewers are especially pleased with the diesel Ghibli's ability to accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in under 6.3 seconds, which is almost unheard of from other diesel-powered vehicles. The luxurious interior of the Ghibli is drawing positive reviews from auto enthusiasts and experts with its superior leather craftsmanship and color combinations.

With its superb Italian engineering and design, the new Maserati Ghibli should have no problem drawing significant interest from luxury car buyers worldwide in 2014. Use Reply! to find the best local Mitsubishi Ghibli price quotes now!
