The minivan is the ultimate family car. It is designed to carry a lot of passengers and a lot of cargo, both of which you can easily load. The best-selling minivans are much more than just schlepping vehicles, though. They feature powerful engines, good fuel economy and high-tech entertainment systems. This guide reviews four minivans for the new model year: the Toyota Sienna, Dodge Grand Caravan, Honda Odyssey and Nissan Quest.

Toyota Sienna

Toyota Sienna best-selling minivansThe Toyota Sienna is a large minivan with a spacious interior. It comfortably seats seven to eight passengers, and it has a V6 engine for powerful driving performance even when it's fully loaded. The Toyota Sienna comes in a wide variety of trims. The L is the introductory Sienna, seating seven passengers and starting at a manufacturer suggested retail price of $26,585.

At the high end of the line, the Limited trim has an MSRP of $40,105. It features a blind-spot monitoring system, 18-inch alloy wheels, dual sunroofs and a refined interior you would expect to find in a luxury sedan. All-wheel drive is also available for the Limited. There are numerous trims in between the L and the Limited, and you can get each one with a mobility-access seat for disabled passengers.

Dodge Grand Caravan

Dodge CaravanThe Dodge Grand Caravan puts the mini into minivan when it comes to price. The AVP trim comes in at a surprisingly low MSRP of $19,995. You might think it's a barebones minivan at that price, but the AVP features a V6 engine and seating for up to seven passengers. You can also configure the seating in various ways based on whether you need to carry more passengers or more cargo.

The Grand Caravan R/T has an MSRP starting at $29,995. The luxurious interior of the R/T, which includes leather-trimmed seats and a nine-speaker sound system with a 506-watt amplifier and subwoofer, accounts for the $10,000 difference between the R/T and the AVP. Even at its highest price point, the Dodge Grand Caravan is still the most affordable of the best-selling minivans.

Honda Odyssey

Honda Odyssey best-selling minivansThe Honda Odyssey tends to be a bit more expensive than its competitors, but it provides value in its fuel efficiency and sharp handling. All Odyssey trims feature a V6 engine. The third-row seat is easy to fold down, and it's possible to configure the second-row seat to hold three child seats. The LX trim starts at $28,675, while the high-end Touring Elite trim has an MSRP of $44,025.

The Touring Elite has a luxurious interior with high-tech features such as a DVD player, a navigation system, an iPod input, satellite radio and Bluetooth. It also gets 28 mpg on the highway, helping you recoup some of the initial higher cost of the vehicle.

Nissan Quest

Nissan QuestThe Nissan Quest is one of the best-selling minivans thanks to the quiet and steady ride that its continuously variable transmission provides. Also equipped with a V6 engine, the Quest gets 25 mpg on the highway. It seats up to seven passengers, and the second-row seating folds down completely flat to give you more cargo capacity.

The Quest also has a broad price range across its trims, so you should be able to find a suitable model no matter what your budget is. The Quest S starts at $25,990, while the LE has an MSRP of $42,640.
