An SUV is a vehicle built on a truck platform with increased cargo space. This gives you the ability to carry luggage and other necessities when traveling. In 2013, the SUVs with the most cargo capacity include the Cadillac Escalade ESV and the GMC Yukon XL. These vehicles offer high performance at the cost of weakened fuel economy.

Cadillac Escalade ESV
Cadillac Escalade - SUVs with the most cargo capacityThe Cadillac Escalade ESV comes in four trim levels: Platinum Edition, Premium, Luxury and Base.  The price ranges from $65,770 to $82,545, depending on the trim level you select. All trim levels are equipped with a powerful 6.2-liter eight-cylinder engine that produces 403 hp and 417 pounds-per-foot of torque. It comes standard with a rear-wheel drive transmission and an automatic six-speed transmission; however, you can upgrade to an all-wheel drive transmission.

In order to make the ESV one of the SUVs with the most cargo capacity, Cadillac expanded on the standard Escalade, adding 20 inches in length and increasing the cargo capacity by 25 percent. The ESV can comfortably seat eight people and has 137.4 cubic feet of space. You'll find 45.8 cubic feet of space behind the third row of seats and removing the third row will give you an additional 90 cubic feet of space. You can expect 14 mpg driving in the city and 18 mpg on the highway.

GMC Yukon XL
GMC YukonIn addition to being one of the SUVs with the most cargo capacity, the GMC Yukon XL can seat nine people and has the power to tow a boat or trailer. The interior is simple and well put together; gauges are easy to read and the controls are easy to operate. The Yukon has 49 cubic feet of cargo space behind the third row, slightly more than the ESV. To get access to all the cargo space, you'll need to remove the third row and fold the second row of seating. This will unveil 137.4 cubic feet of cargo space.

The Yukon has the ability to tow large loads thanks to the 5.3-liter eight-cylinder that produces 320 hp and 335 pounds-per-foot of torque. Upgrading to the 6.0-liter eight-cylinder will increase horsepower to 352 and torque rises to 382 pounds-per-foot. The highest trim level, the Denali, comes with a 6.2-liter eight-cylinder that provides 403 hp and 417 pounds-per-foot of torque. Fuel economy varies depending on the engine. The 5.3-liter engine gets 15 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway. The 6.0-liter engine gets 10 mpg around the city and 16 mpg on the highway. Surprisingly, the 6.2-liter engine gets better mileage than the 6.0-liter engine. It gets 14 mpg around the city and 18 mpg on the highway.
