Launched in 2006 to rave reviews, the Versa is Nissan's line of subcompacts. It is positioned to challenge other compact cars like the Ford Fiesta, Hyundai Accent and Chevy Sonic. The following review examines the Nissan Versa's new features for this year.

Nissan Versa New Features: Exterior and Performance

Nissan VersaOn the outside, the Nissan Versa sports a new grille, softer lines and rounded corners. A notable addition to the this year's lineup is a five-door hatchback. Beneath the hood, the Versa comes with a 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine that delivers 109 horsepower. The subcompact takes a little over 10 seconds to hit the 60 mph mark. It is not outstanding, but it gets the job done.

The car's fuel economy is much more impressive, however. The introduction of a continuously variable automatic transmission makes the 2013 Versa more fuel-efficient than older models. It offers an impressive rating of 31 mpg in the city and 40 mpg on the highway.

Nissan Versa New Features: Interior and Safety

Nissan Versa interiorArguably the most distinct thing about the new Nissan Versa's is how much larger the interior now appears to be. The backseat offers an impressive amount of legroom, which ensures a comfort ride for even tall passengers. The Versa also comes with a spacious trunk that offers up to 14.8 cubic feet of space without the seats folded down.

The dashboard comes with a friendly layout that features intuitively spaced gauges. The car can also be upgraded with useful features such as a rearview camera and keyless ignition. Like most cars, the Nissan Versa is equipped with standard safety features such as traction control, front seat airbags, antilock brakes and stability control. The car received a top IIHS rating for side, roof and frontal-offset tests.
