The Mazda5 price range is pretty narrow for a reason. When an automaker is offering an alternative to traditional automobile classes, options will typically be restricted as part of an effort to keep the cost under control. Narrower options packages will mean fewer reasons to drive up the price with add-ons that may adversely affect the car's performance, fuel economy or interior luxury.

The good news is that Buyerlink is an excellent place to start looking into the Mazda 5 price, package options and more. If you arrive at the car lot without doing your homework first, it will be difficult even to ask intelligent questions of the dealer. At the very least, a preliminary investigation of what's available will help you to decide whether or not the Mazda5 price is a match for what it promises.

Overview

Mazda5 priceThe Mazda5 is what car-knowing types call a "multi-purpose vehicle" or "MPV," perhaps because "hybrid" and "crossover" were already taken by other types of car. The basic idea is that you're getting a sort-of minivan, sort-of wagon and sort-of economy car all rolled into one. It sounds like a recipe for things to go horribly wrong, but in the case of the 5-series, Mazda seems to know what it's doing.

The Mazda5 seats six, with very little in the way of cargo space. The halogen headlights are included, as are the double sliding doors and rear lift gate. Decent fog lights are available, as well as the entirely stylish rear spoiler.

Engine and fuel economy

The Mazda5 is really easy on the gas. Being considerably smaller than a standard minivan, the MPV can get by on a much lighter 2.5-liter, 157 hp engine. This, along with your choice of manual or automatic transmission, helps the Mazda5 deliver a comfortable 22 mpg in the city or an even better 28 mpg on the highway. All-disc brakes and a pretty sophisticated electronic stability system are standard safety features, as are the side-impact airbags for each row of passengers.

Price

Mazda5 interiorThe Mazda5 is pretty on the outside, but that smart styling belies the cost of the vehicle. You can pick up the Mazda5 for a MSRP of between $19,940 and $24,470. Incidentally, the invoice price for the high-end trim package is $1,000 lower, so don't be shy about trying to negotiate.

It might not be quite as large and versatile as a full-size minivan, but if you're paying for it yourself, it's nice to know that you probably won't be missing any house payments over it.

The Mazda5 was originally conceived as an elaborate series of compromises. It was an effort to please as many different audiences as possible. Unlike almost every other effort of its kind, however, the Mazda5 has actually managed to carve out a respectable niche for itself. It certainly doesn't hurt that the Mazda5 price has been kept within the realm of the manageable for the bulk of the car-buying public.
