The Dodge Durango price represents a moment frozen in time. Motivated by the success of other models of SUV in approximately its range of fuel economy, performance and interior options, the engineering teams at Dodge went back to the drawing board in 2011 to redesign their already successful crossover. The redesign doesn't seem to have had the desired effect, and so Dodge has now tweaked the design still further. The wide price range of the resulting vehicle hints very strongly at a model that's come loose from any traditional mooring in the market and that now may or may not find its niche at last.

Dodge Durango priceReply! is a good place to learn about new developments in the SUV crossover market as well as for keeping up to date on the technical details of automaker's latest offerings. The overall cost of a vehicle can be driven down with just a little advance preparation, so information is the key to saving yourself a lot of trouble later, even if you do manage to negotiate a decent Dodge Durango price.

Fuel economy

One element of cost that won't be reflected in the Dodge Durango price is the money you'll be paying every few days at the pump. Here, Dodge doesn't disappoint, even if the EPA-estimated 13 to 16 mpg for city driving isn't exactly thrilling. The Dodge Durango does better on the highway, with a more solid and reasonable 20 to 23 mpg.

Engine and performance

Dodge Durango interiorThis sort of fuel economy is the result of a series of delicate compromises between power and the overall balance of the vehicle. The Durango line is powered by stock Dodge engines. The base model is run by what's essentially the Chrysler Pentastar engine.

This 3.6-liter V-6 generates 290 horsepower at its peak, and is known for sending enough vibrations through lighter cars to mix paint. It seems to fare better in the heavier Durango, but for more power that's paradoxically easier to control, Dodge offers a workhorse 5.7-liter V-8 that will use its 360 hp to haul up to 7,400 pounds.

Sticker price

Of course, when you go to buy the Durango, you'll want to take a look at the sticker. Here, Dodge is all over the map. The base model Durango may be had for as little as $29,495, while adding practically anything to the trim package will send the MSRP zooming up to $42,345. It's worth noting the invoice prices range from $1,000 to $3,000 cheaper, so you might try to get the sales manager to knock the price down by a few hundred dollars.

One thing that can be said of Dodge is it aims to please. Dodge has spent the last few years on an epic quest through the market to find out exactly what consumers really want in an SUV crossover. Someday they may find it, and then the Dodge Durango price will need no justification.
