When gas mileage is your main concern, you might be looking for electric and gas models that have the best hybrid mpg. Coming in tops in the hybrid market, Ford puts on an excellent show with several offerings that will save you money and time at the gas pump.

Ford Fusion Hybrid

Ford Fusion best hybrid mpgThe Ford Fusion Hybrid FWD is one of the best in its class. With an affordable cost, it offers good gas mileage and the technology required for smooth performance. With a price range of $24,625 to $25,200, the Fusion's gas mileage qualifies it for best hybrid mpg at 47 for combined city and highway conditions. The Ford C-Max makes the list as well with 47 mpg, if you're looking for a wagon model. A close runner-up for best hybrid mpg at 45 is the Lincoln MDZ hybrid, but it comes at a much higher price.

Engine

The Fusion offers a standard 2.5-liter I-4 EcoBoost in-line four-cylinder engine. These engines deliver great performance and fuel economy by combining three different technologies — turbocharging, direct injection and twin-independent variable-cam timing (Ti-VCT). The 2.0-liter and 1.6-liter engines are also available options. Together with a SelectShift automatic six-speed transmission, the Fusion offers 188 hp of performance while delivering gas mileage of 47 mpg.

Powertrain features

Ford FusionWith a six-speed SelectShift automatic transmission with paddle shifters, you'll get the sporty feel of shifting gears without learning to drive a manual transmission. The available race-inspired steering wheel-mounted paddles allow you to switch from gear to gear quickly and easily without taking your hands off the wheel. The Fusion models that aren't equipped with steering wheel paddle shifters have a convenient thumb switch positioned on the gearshift knob.

The Fusion powertrain uses eCVT to combine power from the electric motor and the engine to deliver power to the wheels when you command it. With eCVT, the noticeable upshifts and downshifts of conventional transmissions are eliminated. This type of technology promises a seamless driving experience.

Suspension and handling

The Fusion comes with independent front suspension with multiline independent rear suspension. It offers a comfortably refined ride on straightaways and a nimble but balanced ride when taking a corner or curve. This type of handling and comfort provides a positive road feel and a quieter cabin with passengers isolated from unwanted road noise.

Intelligent all-wheel drive (AWD) with sensors that constantly monitor traction is available for the Fusion. The Intelligent AWD gives a balance between the front and rear wheels, maximizing traction and enhancing handling.

Technology features

The Fusion's electric power-assisted steering (EPAS) gives precise control at higher speeds by adjusting automatically. EPAS has and an active nibble control feature that uses the motor to reduce steering wheel vibrations. EPAS uses drift control technology to detect road conditions, and it adjusts to compensate for those conditions. The Fusion Hybrid uses Lane-Keeping System technology to prevent unintentional lane changes.
