Crossovers have provided the versatility that most people want in a car. The beginning of 2013 reintroduced some of the best compact crossover vehicles in the market, with less expensive models and touring version options. Manufacturers are also fixing some of crossover's issues, such as limited off-road usage and towing ability.

Audi Q5
Audi Q5Based on the A4 sport sedan platform, the Audi Q5 crossover combines sporty handling and comfortable drive with ease. It is available in five trim levels, with most upper trim features also made available in lower trim levels as options. The Audi Q5 2.0T is equipped with a turbocharged 2.0-liter inline-4 engine, a standard eight-speed automatic transmission, and an EPA-estimated fuel economy of 20 mpg city, 28 mpg highway and 23 mpg combined. The 3.0T has an above average towing capacity and has what most Audi models offer: classy interior and top-quality performance and construction. It received a "Good" rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety for frontal offset tests, roof strength and side-impact. At a starting cost of $35, 900, the Audi Q5 is one refined and sporty ride; a worthy entry to the best compact crossover cars list.

Volvo XC60
Volvo XC60A family-friendly compact SUV, the 2013 Volvo XC60 makes it to the list of best compact crossover vehicles for its strong turbocharged engine, comfortable cabin, modern design and interior and excellent safety ratings. It is available in three trim levels, and each trim is offered in standard, Premium Plus and Platinum sub-trims. The 3.2-liter inline-6 engine can produce 240 horsepower and can go from 0-60 mph in 9.1 seconds. The fuel efficiency is average at 19 mpg city, 25 mpg highway and 21 mpg combined. The XC60 wins for the best interior in Volvo's series of cars with user-friendly controls, roomy seats, decent legroom and a maximum cargo capacity of 67 cubic feet. The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety also gave it the highest "Good" rating for roof strength, side-impact and frontal offset tests. For a small luxury crossover car, it is pretty impressive at $34, 350.

Chevy Equinox
Chevy Equinox - best compact crossoversThe entry level 2013 Chevrolet Equinox is a gutsy ride with its 3.6-liter four-cylinder V6 engine and some additional high-tech features that weren't present on its predecessor. One of the best qualities of the Equinox is its expansive rear passenger seats that offer extra legroom for rear-seat passengers. It falls short in terms of cargo capacity when compared to its rivals, as it only has 31.4 cubic feet of luggage capacity and 63.7 cubic feet of maximum cargo capacity. It makes up with its luxurious and whisper-quiet cabin, highway stability, touchscreen infotainment interface, comfortable ride quality, and an increased towing capacity. It also received a top "Good" rating from the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety. Its price is also one of its advantages, as it only has an MSRP of $24, 155, a good price for this kind of ride.
